Kamal Hasan is expressing a rather unusual perspective on creating and promoting literary festivals and other cultural events – tourism! However, there is a truth to his statement. For example, Pune is a city that has been promoted through its various cultural and sports events. In Tamil Nadu, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) is an ideal chice for this approach. It is not an industrial city, and it has many cultural attractions surrounding it. If an innovative politician like Suresh Kalmadi takes the initiative to promote Trichy, there could be a bright future for this place.
