Solitude- A Letter

Dear Jeyamohan,

I am an ardent fan of Anthony Storr, and his book ‘Solitude’ saved my life at the age of 22 when I was alone in Munich. I was in deep depression and constantly in search of an intellectual partner. I was longing for people. However, I experienced greater depression when I was surrounded by ordinary men.  I thought loneliness was my existential crisis. Doctors said it was my personal psychological problem and prescribed me some medicines. Then, I came across Storr, who helped me understand that solitude truly is my greatest strength. Immersed in my solitude, I listened to music and read science books. Actually, I was enjoying my solitude. But the society around me taught me that loneliness was an illness, and I fell in love with that idea. Solitude is a gift for any creative person; only then do we have to learn how to deal with it. Your articles are really sharp and passionate.
