Philosophy- Should practice also be taught?

Dear Jeyamohan,

May I know one small thing, just for my clarification? You are conducting philosophy classes. Are you teaching methods to meditate or ponder those ideas? Are you guiding people to practice those ideas? What is the use of just knowing ideas if we cannot ponder and practice them?

Krishna Rao

Dear Krishna Rao,

Philosophy is not a bunch of ideas or guidelines for living. Philosophy is a way of thinking. I am teaching that ‘way’ only. It will eventually develop his thinking pattern and gradually strengthen his perception. Believe me, philosophy has that power. Proper education can achieve it. Perception is the base of our activities, both in everyday life and spiritual quest.

A person who adopts another’s way of thinking and living is a simple-minded individual; he only needs guidelines. Philosophical education is meant for intellectually able persons who are striving to find their own method of thought and way of salvation. They can find their path through philosophical education for sure.

Jeyamohan.
