Multitasking- A letter.

Dear Jayamohan,

I watched your video on India’s work culture. I feel that our education system encourages a form of multitasking that is ultimately unproductive. In many workplaces, people attend video meetings, work on their computers, and even consume other media simultaneously. This may seem practical for routine clerical tasks, but it discourages deep attention and serious engagement with work.

From what I understand, such multitasking is not widely encouraged in many European work cultures, where focus and precision are valued more highly. As we enter an age of increasingly capable intelligent machines, perfection and concentration may become more important than simply handling many tasks at once. When we perform multiple activities without giving full attention to any of them, we risk reducing ourselves to the level of machines and allowing them to surpass us.

Regards,

Sundaramurty
