The video about the negative participation of the upper classes in Tamil literature is good. I am not sure how directly this phenomenon has affected the development of Tamil literature, but I think one important point can be made.
What seems to be missing is the perspective of the higher levels of power—the major conspiracies and power struggles, trade wars, and the larger historical transformations that take place at the top level of society. Looking at these changes from that angle may give us a deeper understanding of how the upper classes have influenced, and perhaps constrained, the development of Tamil literature and culture.
