Cyril has been conducting a series of classes to introduce the Christian intellectual tradition from a philosophical perspective. In the forthcoming sessions, he plans to expand the scope of these classes by incorporating the Greek intellectual tradition as well.
It is impossible to fully understand Western thought and art without understanding the Christian tradition. Likewise, it is extremely difficult for someone who is unfamiliar with Western thought and art to understand modern literature and contemporary art. To put it simply, even engaging in a conversation with a Westerner can sometimes be difficult.
Even for someone who watches films closely, this introduction is essential to understanding the cultural layers underlying them. Our education system and the environment in which we live do not provide us with this kind of learning. It is precisely because such education is so essential that we have continued to conduct these classes.
This is neither religious instruction nor religious propaganda. Rather, it is an attempt to introduce the Christian tradition from a broad historical, cultural and philosophical perspective.
In fact, we often find that even people born into Christian families who attend church every Sunday have little or no basic understanding of the Christian tradition. Today, a comprehensive introduction to this tradition is being offered through our classes.
