Our learning on us …

Dear Jeyamohan,

I hope you are well.

I’m not a one who reads a lot. Out of my education in schools and college I have read very few books, most of them are short stories and novels based on management principles and historical fictions. After reading Kalki’s Ponniyin Selvan a decade ago, I started to have an interest towards the history and religion. I started to understand that history is not just wars and conquest as I’ve read in school history books. From the references of Saivam, Vaishnavam, Saktham, Kaumaram in the book I began to understand that Hinduism is not what I see around today or understood. My view towards history and religion had a new turn. At some point I started to realise that philosophy is underlying crust of a religion not the stories or rituals. I understood to realise God my thoughts should raise above the religion and to do that religion’s philosophy should be properly understood. I’m seeking unexaggerated and factual information and unbiased philosophy which is very hard to find these days. In fact, I haven’t tried enough to find them due to my work and laziness.

Out of interest I started listening to podcasts in YouTube, assuming I would get to know more on these areas. But I’m not satisfied with data I got except for the few. Podcasts of Mr Suki Sivam gave some clarity in religious perspective. Podcasts of Mr S Ramakrishnan about the Russian writers and their novels attracted me and introduced me to the western philosophies. Few months back, in a podcast of Mrs Bharathi Baskar, she gave a reference from your work on how Saguni become limp and determined impressed me. I think it is from Venmurasu which I haven’t read yet. But will read soon. I don’t believe in story that Bishmar imprisoned Saguni’s family, let them starved to death by under feeding them and spared just him. I had come to know about you from there. Immediately I searched in YouTube with your name and found the Unified Wisdom Channel.

I listened to almost all videos that have been posted in the channel. I would say they give me what I’m looking for, an unbiased philosophy that is needed for harmonious life. I also searched about your writings. I read Nooru Narkaligal and reading Venkadal now. Two hours before writing this mail, I listened to your recent podcast from USA. I came to know about your Tamil Wiki from that. Immediately, I went to the site and went through some pages. It is a true precious treasure and to be preserved for ages to come. I felt I should write my long pending thank you note for you immediately. Thank you very much for such great contributions. I’m glad I’m able to read your writings and listen to you in your time and able to thank you. Please continue to contribute and almighty God bless you with good health, peace and happiness. Your wisdom would guide me and many others in the right path.

This is my first mail to any writer or creator. Please excuse if I hadn’t followed the etiquette.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Sarangapani Raman

Dear Sarangapani

As you said, philosophy is the base of all cultural and religious understandings. But in India, we insist on secular education, and our policymakers thought Indian philosophy was a part of Hindu religion. It created a big void in our original thinking. Independent institutions like us are trying to mend that gap on a small level. We know there are only a few takers for this, but we are doing it because it is an unavoidable task.

Thank you for the support.

Jeyamohan
