Urdu Classes, A Letter

Dear J,

You announced through your video that now Urdu literature classes are available. It is undoubtedly a very necessary education. My army service introduced me to Urdu literature. My friend used to read Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poems. I am still a big fan of Urdu poetry. Urdu is the offspring of Persian. Some lines of Mirza Ghalib remain in my memory.

But I generally cannot find that interest in Tamil. I also doubt that anyone here will come to Urdu literature classes. In any case, it is the best thing that such a class is going to happen. Best wishes.

G.K.R. Ramaswamy

Dear Ramasamy,

I thought that qualified teachers should conduct these classes, so I started this. Today, the absence of these kinds of classes represents a significant loss.

This is one of the classes that I personally want to attend. I know that an introduction to Urdu literature will open up a space for me to talk to many literary circles across India.
