Dear Jeyamohan,
The discussion about the relationship between religion and spirituality is a most relevant subject these days. Indeed, effectively deciphering this relationship is not an effortless task.
Religion encompasses spirituality, while spirituality expresses itself through the symbols found in religion. So the difference is not obvious for a common man. A proper teacher can teach it to a curious student. Unfortunately, we have no such great teachers who are obvious about this.
During his early days, Jaggi Vasudev espoused pure spirituality, a topic typically associated with intellectuals. Afterwards he turned into a religious person and began to install gods. He has no option; if he wants to attract common people, he has to do this. Anyway, he has successfully installed a semireligion.
