Dear Jeyamohan,
The question you raised presents a significant issue that we must consider seriously. We believe that we are spiritual people. But any western man can easily ask that: if we are really spiritual, why are we ruining our temples like this? Why are we keeping our temples unhygienic and noisy places? Why are we impatient in a serene and sacred place? Why are we mindlessly polluting our holy places? I often found myself in delicate situations with Westerners while confronting these issues.
The truth is that we are not spiritual; We are spiritually bankrupt people! We are very earthly people, and we imagine that prayer for earthly things is a spiritual matter. We have to accept this reality; then only we can come out of it. But we are cheating ourselves with silly beliefs that we are spiritually superior.
