The money in your dream never buy things!

Dear Jeyamohan,

It is a grand illusion that everyone naturally gets the place they deserve according to their abilities and qualifications. In reality, one’s position in life or profession is not determined solely by qualification or talent.

People engaged in business rarely hold such illusions. They understand that success is the result of many factors working together: the ability to do the work, recognizing and seizing opportunities, building relationships and networks, anticipating future trends, and managing day-to-day affairs with care and discipline. Of course, luck also plays a role.

People in salaried jobs are often dissatisfied because they tend to imagine a greater potential in themselves than they have actually tested or demonstrated. They assume they possess many abilities and skills, but they neither prove them nor put them into practice. Yet they expect rewards for these untested talents.

In a sense, they expect a miracle: earning money in a dream and waking up to find real goods in their hands. Life does not work that way.
