A holistic approach

Dear Jayamohan,

I understand that you are working with the vision of creating a comprehensive knowledge movement by integrating modern literature, modern philosophy, traditional literature, traditional arts, modern arts, and everything else into one unified whole.

In the beginning, I too had written some comments on Facebook criticizing you, saying that you were mixing everything together in a confusing way — modern literature, spirituality, Islamic philosophy, Hindu philosophy, and so on.

But today, when I look at it, I feel this is exactly how a true knowledge movement should function. If a modern writer creates without any deep knowledge of traditional literature, traditional philosophy, heritage arts, or classical arts, they end up repeatedly writing only about the everyday and the ordinary. When we read the thoughts expressed in the poems or stories of many contemporary Tamil writers, those familiar with Tamil’s philosophical tradition often feel: “What is new here to learn? What is surprising or insightful in this?”

Likewise, if someone steeped only in traditional literature and philosophy reads without any exposure to modern thought and modern literature, they tend to become stagnant — merely quoting old ideas without freshness. I see that such people are often unable to connect what they know with modern life and contemporary realities.

I believe this comprehensive, all-encompassing approach to knowledge is your most significant contribution.
