Jeyamohan,
Today, there are educated people all over the world, but most of them have received technical or professional education without a corresponding cultural education. As a result, many lack a deeper understanding of religion, spirituality, and the cultural traditions that shape human life.
One of the major confusions of our time is the tendency to mistake lifestyle practices for religion and religion for spirituality. Being a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian has nothing to do, in itself, with a person’s spiritual depth. Similarly, taking a bath early every morning may be a personal habit or a cultural practice, but it does not necessarily have any spiritual significance.
We need to understand the distinctions between spirituality, religion, and ritual. Though they are related, they are not the same. Religious rituals may be part of a tradition, but they do not automatically lead to spiritual understanding. Likewise, spirituality cannot be reduced to a set of external practices or personal habits.
In this context, your speech was truly enlightening. It helped clarify these distinctions and offered an important perspective on a subject that is often misunderstood today.
