Why do we read porn? I think this question has something to do with the nature of modern life. Our lives today are increasingly brain-oriented. We spend most of our time thinking, processing information, making decisions, and dealing with abstract problems. Mental fatigue has become one of the major problems of our time, and it often leads to anxiety and depression.
We constantly seek ways to stimulate or pacify the brain. Coffee stimulates us; liquor, for some people, offers a temporary escape from mental strain. Pornography, too, may serve one of these purposes. For some, it acts as a stimulant; for others, it becomes a pacifier, offering temporary relief from the pressures of everyday life.
Perhaps our engagement with pornography is not always about sexuality in itself. It may also be understood in the context of our need for stimulation, distraction, and relief from the exhaustion of modern existence.
