Dear J
You are teaching the outline of Indian philosophy at this system. Can someone who did not attend those classes participate in Saiva siddhanta classes? Won’t there be confusion? I think that the Saiva siddhanta class of Shanthikumar Swami is a philosophy class.
Senthilkumar M.R.
Dear Senthilkumar,
Yes, the class Santikumara Swamy conducts is a philosophy class.
Nataraja Guru says that there is a structuralism in our thoughts. We make everything we came to know as a structure. Our methodology of knowledge is creating a structure or a pattern using the data and ideas that come before us.
Then we use multiple structures like this as building blocks and connect them with each other to create larger ones. We used to insert smaller structures into that larger structure and continuously make it wider. Everyone has an ever-growing total structure of thought inside their mind, and every new knowledge they collect is validated by the conformity of it with the total structure they already have.
The same thing is happening in philosophy education. You can freely go to a Saivasiddhanta class. There you will learn and create a structure. Then, if you learn Indian philosophy, you will fit it into the larger structure of Indian thought. Similarly, you can learn Buddhist and Jain ideas and arrange them inside the holistic picture you are slowly developing. They do not contradict each other; on the other hand, they contribute with each other.
If one gets a general introduction to Indian philosophy after the Saiva Siddhanta class, one will feel that the Saiva Siddhanta he has already learned is expanding. If one takes the Saiva Siddhanta class along with the Bible class conducted by Cyril Alex, one will see that both enlarge and enrich each other more subtly.
We also teach Western philosophy here. After attending those classes, one will understand Indian philosophy more clearly and sharpen his intuitive knowledge, which is the foundation of all learning.
