கமல்ஹாசன் – தேடலின் பேரழகு
Dear Jeyamohan,
I read what you wrote about Kamal. Kamal Haasan’s unwavering academic drive is an example for everyone. In India, seventy is the age when we decide that life is over. People around us would tell us, “You are old! You should rest.” If I had attended such training, my wife and daughters might have remarked, “Is it necessary at your age?” I am 3 years younger than Kamal Haasan!
I don’t know if they’re saying this for us or out of fear that we might fall somewhere and make them responsible for taking care of us. I can’t even go to the places I like. I can study what I like. But even then, doctors say, “Don’t strain your eyes and don’t overwork your brain.”
In fact, as you say, one cannot live happily unless he whips his brain. But old-fashioned doctors try to keep us alive like vegetables in the fridge.
In a middle-class environment in India, life ends at 60. Young people should at least spend the rare youth they have got in a useful way.
