Dear J,
My love for the written word, which I discovered at the age of ten and my love for nature which I discovered at the age of twenty are the two main driving forces of my life.
Words led me to you and nature led me to Dr. Logamadevi. It is in her that I found my ‘Nature guru’. She stands tall among the trees, a queen, talking about her favourite men, women and children of the plant world. One can feel the trees basking in and returning her love at all times. As her students, we too got a bit of love from those majestic trees ‘Handsome ones’ as she calls them.
As a child who grew up in the lap of Enid Mary Blyton, I had always imagined myself to be one of her characters, who wandered in the woods, found treasures and at the same time had intimate and world changing conversations, all among the trees. Sweet daydreams they were.
Oh my! Did they come true and how!
The reality much sweeter, a drop of ‘thrimathuram’ as you call it. A blend of a great guru, a favourite subject and fellow students with the similar interest. An Elixir!
It is with great inner bliss that I call myself now, a disciple of the lineage of nature lovers, Guru Nithya Chaithanya Yati, Poet Devadevan, Author Jeyamohan, Educator and Author Logamadevi.. Now I know what ‘arugamarthal’ means, to learn with a guru while being in their spectrum of thoughts.
The hearts that you’ve tilled over these years are ever so ready to receive the seeds that are sown by the gurus you name. I can feel it growing inside of me, the others who attended the class with me and the many others associated with Vishnupuram literary circle. Together they will grow into a beautiful forest, one that will make you smile, a contended one I hope, as IT wills.
with warm regards,
Priya, Bangalore.
Dear Priya,
A generation ago, the main belief was that if a person fixed himself in the system and earned for his basic needs, he was ‘settled’ in life, and he would be happy. It was the truth of their time. Particularly about women, it was said if they marry a proper person and give their life to the family, their life is fulfilled.
It is not the truth today, at least for people with minimum intelligence and sensitivity. Today everyone needs a purpose to live and a goal to achieve. Everyone wants a sense of achievement in their life. If they do not get it, they become frustrated and bored. This can lead to depression.
My advice to everyone complaining about the fruitlessness of their life is this: “Indulge in some intellectual or service activity, learn something new every day, do something creatively.” This is the approach I have personally discovered and am actively promoting.
I am glad you also discovered the bliss of learning and being creative in your own field.
