Dear Jeyamohan,
I too had a prolonged doubt about literature; I used to ask myself the same question. How is it that literature does not seem to cultivate individuals and improve society? I used to answer that literature is an ultimate failure, and it is nothing more than high-class entertainment or hypocrisy. Your response is lucid and provides a fresh perspective on the entire question. Thank you.
