Ajithan’s introductory course on Western philosophy has now expanded beyond India and is being conducted in several countries around the world. Professors of Western philosophy in the United States have recognized the breadth and depth of Ajithan’s scholarship, and he is engaged in direct academic discussions with them. One such conversation with an American scholar is soon to be published in the United States.
European philosophy is an immense and complex intellectual tradition. Gaining even an introductory understanding of it is not easy. Yet every sincere effort we make deepens our understanding, broadens our perspective, and ultimately leads us toward the joy of self-knowledge.
Not only contemporary political theory, sociology, and psychology, but even modern management theory is fundamentally shaped by Western philosophical thought. Our education, professions, and technological world have all been built upon these intellectual foundations. Therefore, an understanding of Western philosophy provides an essential framework for comprehending the modern world—its institutions, ideas, and ways of thinking—in a deep and integrated manner.
Today, this may well be regarded as part of the minimum intellectual education required for anyone working in any field. That is why courses introducing Western philosophy have gained such wide acceptance across the world. In Tamil Nadu, this is arguably the foremost systematic introductory course on Western philosophical thought.

Beginning with the philosophers of ancient Greece and extending to contemporary philosophical movements, this intensive three-day course offers a concise yet comprehensive introduction to the development of Western philosophy. Rather than presenting a series of lectures that merely summarize what each philosopher said, Ajithan approaches philosophy through the fundamental questions faced by modern human beings: ethics, power, relationships, the relationship between humanity and the universe, and other enduring concerns. He then demonstrates how some of the world’s greatest philosophers have addressed these questions through their distinctive systems of thought.
Such an education is an invitation to think. Each participant discovers a philosopher whose ideas resonate most deeply with them. For some, it is Nietzsche; for others, Hegel; for still others, Schopenhauer. That discovery often marks the beginning of a lifelong intellectual journey.
Those who are interested are warmly invited to participate.
