Dear Jeyamohan,
The brief discussion titled ‘Why is philosophy essential?’ holds significant importance. I was watching my students for more than twenty years and observed a particular deficiency in their learning. It is the typical element in the Indian educational system, which can be a major problem in the future when AI becomes the main player in the intellectual ground. Our students cannot summarize the essence of anything. They can shorten and provide a brief version of a lesson but are unable to go into its essence. because they lack philosophical training. For a long time, we believed that technical education didn’t need philosophical training; it was based on experience and experiment-based practical learning. Suddenly AI proved it is wrong; today a machine brain can do everything that our most brilliant students used to do in our examinations. We need real philosophical education to meet this challenge. Otherwise we may fail before AI.
