Dear Jeyamohan
I heard the news that you are conducting Sufi Islam classes, as well as Kazal and Urdu literature classes, at your place under your Unified Wisdom program. Indeed, this is a commendable gesture.
Today, everyone seems ideologically polarized and gradually filled with hatred. When fascism emerges in a society, polarization is a prominent trait that we can observe.
Here, Muslims are isolated from the mainstream. Partly due to the mentality of some Muslims and the religious fundamentalism among them, this situation has arisen. However, we cannot ignore the significant level of hatred perpetuated by our political parties and the media.
This cultural and social isolation leads Muslims to associate with known atheists and Hindu detractors. Such associations are risky because they strengthen the anti-Muslim propaganda that claims Muslims are anti-Hindu, further isolating them.
Programs like yours are necessary in these times. Islam should be taught alongside other faiths and should be part of all Indian faiths and cultures. A class in a common place where people from all walks of life participate marks a new beginning.
My best wishes.
Salim Khan
