Is the Hindu philosophy class useful for youngsters?

Dear Jeyamohan,

I understand that a Hindu philosophy class is being offered in English. Can I enroll my son in this class? He has a keen interest in the subject and enjoys reading, but he is not very proficient in Tamil. He attends an English-medium school. Will this class be engaging for young people? Is it relevant to today’s life?

Dear Krishnamurthy,

This class is not traditional; it is based on modern educational methods and is taught in a contemporary manner. It focuses on Hindu philosophy and its historical evolution and is specifically designed for young people. Any individual over 15 years of age who can understand English is welcome to participate. Many young individuals have already attended this class.

Philosophy may not resonate with everyone; it is intended for those who seek to understand the essence of things. Whether a young person fits this description can only be determined after they attend the class in person; it cannot be assessed otherwise. There are many who initially enrolled due to parental pressure but later developed a genuine interest.

This class encourages philosophical thinking, which serves as a crucial foundation for any educational pursuit and further training. Today’s youth are particularly vulnerable to consumer culture and social media addiction. If a person embraces philosophy, these distractions lose their significance. The best defense against contemporary addictions is to cultivate an interest in serious matters.
