Creativity and ideas.

Dear Jeyamohan,

I watched your video talk on the fulfillment of life.

I often wonder what peculiar quality draws people like me to you. I have been reading literature for over 30 years and remain an ardent reader of modern fiction and nonfiction. I can say this: your writing has a rare direct expression of wisdom. When discussing world literature, it is evident that classicist writers such as Tolstoy, Tagore, and Hugo possessed that quality. Modern writers often refrain from making broad statements due to their fear of generalization. More than that, they worry that the general statements they make could stigmatize their work. Above all, many modern writers struggle to articulate their thoughts about life, often experiencing personal failures and possessing only a vague understanding of it. They were keen observers of life, not masters of it, like Tolstoy. You are speaking with your readers like a grand old man with wisdom obtained through life, reading, and the tradition of teachers. But your works never have that generalization or preaching tone. They are thoroughly independent from these talks. I will call these ideas of life ‘useful generalizations,’ which are practical in our day-to-day lives. Your creative mind knew the limitations of these ideas, and you are actually working on it through your creative work.
