Fish and bird

Je,

A few days ago, I had a conversation with a Westerner who was sitting near me on a bench. I asked him about his hobbies. He said he is interested in fishing and birdwatching. I joked, “You are a bird when you are fishing, and a fish when watching a bird.”

He gazed at me incomprehensibly. But a few days ago, I met the same person again. He came towards me and held my hands, saying, “Suddenly I realized what the mistake is… Fishing is not a sport; it is murder. It is a meaningless war against the earth’s lives. We don’t eat the fish we catch. We just throw them back into the water. It is killing for the sake of the pleasure of killing… Birds are not killers; they eat the fish they catch, and they never catch a fish when the hunger is over.”

I said I am an ardent reader of yours, and this line is a rephrasing of your words. We were talking about you. I used to describe this as “thinking like Jeyamohan.” Sometimes it gives me rare moments like this.
