Gurukula – A letter

On the gurukula model of education

I read your piece regarding the Gurukula method of education. It is true that the Gurukula System is the sole means by which learning can be completely subjective. Before us, we need a human, not software. In the not-too-distant future, AI will teach humans fundamental skills, but in order to learn more, we still need humans.I still treasure the wonderful times I had with my instructor while I studied music under the Gurukula method.

I was not taught actual music in the classroom; instead, I learned more from his spontaneous opening of a Raga or his discussions about music during idle periods. I saw a lot of things during those times. However, the issue lies in our inability to institutionalise the Gurukula Sampradaya. Tagore attempted at Santhi Niketan Santhi Niketan’s overall system is currently experiencing a severe decline. You are probably aware that the scandels shattered in Chennai’s Kalashetra.

The lack of impartiality in Gurukula Sampradaya is the source of its problems. Institutionalization caused it to spiral out of control. If it is in control, it forfeits its genuineness . It can only be run with good intentions. Both the instructor and the student need to value education and be committed to their craft. When an institution first starts off, its original essence usually wins over and eventually fades away. Gurukula Sampradaya will descend into abuse and irresponsibility at this point. There is no possibility that Gurukula Samparadaya could be anything other than small-scale alternative education system.
