Dear Jayamohan
Do you believe in the past life and the next life? You say, “Can the knowledge and wisdom acquired by a man during his lifetime perish with his death?” I understand how the line is written. Sometimes, when we think we can do everything, why does evil or cosmic destiny laugh in front of us? Do we create that destiny through our own actions? Is it permissible for humans to shape their own fate through positive or negative actions? How can the responsibility of that action accrue to him if a force over and above him directs everything? If that is all, then what is the meaning of the knowledge it has given us before this great feast?
I haven’t shared these questions out there. I haven’t researched any books for answers. (Sorry for asking you directly without doing that.)
PRAGATHESWARAN
Dear Pragathesvaran,
We often hold the mistaken belief that we can discuss and logically resolve everything. We can only discuss ideas that are common to everyone. We can rationally address issues that have a sound logical foundation. However, many issues are highly personal and defy common logic. I don’t ‘believe’ in reincarnation or ‘karma’, but I ‘know’ that they are true. But I won’t discuss it in public or with a skeptic. We should only engage in discussions about our intellectual concepts. We should keep our aesthetic and spiritual learning within ourselves.
