Dear Jeyamohan,
I watched your videos on religion. I too have the same impression on religion. When I was a young man, at the period I was beaming with a rebellious mood, I read the analysis of political thinkers on religion and was well convinced that religion is a kind of opium prescribed for poor masses to enslave them. The basic feeling behind that thought is that I am not one of those masses. I possess enlightenment and knowledge, demonstrating a deep comprehension of both religion and history.
However, through personal life experiences, I realized that there are numerous fundamental questions in life that no one can definitively answer. Only intuition can provide possible answers to those questions; the development of intuition over generations is a necessary process. Only religion preserves the grand collection of human intuitions.
Yes, there is exploitation and blind faith in religion, but they are present in any political ideology as well. To be frank, hierarchy and exploitation are more powerful in political ideologies. A truly intelligent individual should approach religion with a keen attention to detail and a historical perspective. Then only can he imbibe the real time-tested wisdom in it through images and archetypes.
